Intermittent fasting saves me during the summer when I have a little too much fun on the warm summer weekends. 

I’ve been practicing intermittent fasting for the last two years and have found that it allows me to sleep better, and have prolonged energy throughout the day without crashing.

I never have to think about what I’m having for breakfast, and I end up making much better food choices throughout my day.  

It’s important that you listen to your body so that you can educate yourself on what works for you in your health journey—so here’s my inside look into intermittent fasting and why it could be great for you to mix into your health routine. 

What is Intermittent Fasting?

Intermittent fasting is the practice of fasting for the majority of the day and then consuming all of your calories during a small period of time. I’m a huge fan of the 16:8 approach where you fast for a 16 hour window and have balanced meals during the other 8 hours of the day.  

I start my fast at 8:00 PM and break my fast at 12:00 PM the following day when I’m focused on eating solid foods only—and when I incorporate juices, I start my fast at 8:00 PM and break my fast at 2:00 PM (which I’ll get into later in this post). 

Why is intermittent fasting good for you? 

When you eat, insulin is released into your bloodstream to convert glucose (or sugars) into energy. Oftentimes, this glucose isn’t used immediately and ends up being stored in our fat cells and isn’t used until our bodies have a prolonged drop in insulin levels. 

This means if we are constantly eating small meals throughout the day, we are never tapping into our stored reserves of glucose—and we are most likely storing more glucose in our bodies than we need leading to a buildup of fat and inflammation in our bodies. 

When we intermittent fast, our insulin levels go down and we are finally able to unlock our body’s fat stores for energy to maintain a healthy weight. 

Studies have found that intermittent fasting not only leads to weight loss, but also reduces inflammation, improves memory, builds a resistance to stress, helps you live longer, slows physical signs of aging, and stabilizes our blood sugar levels. 

What’s the Magic Mix approach to intermittent fasting? 

In my magical version of intermittent fasting, I include low-calorie organic, cold-pressed green juice so that my body maintains the fasted state (due to the elimination in fiber) while giving the digestive system the fuel it needs to repair cells without being bombarded by the wear and tear of digesting regular food. 

This is how I space out my juice and meals during my intermittent fasting days:

8:00 AM Magic Mix Lemon-Aid

10:00 AM Magic Mix Cucumber Juice

12:00 PM Magic Mix Celery Juice noon celery juice

2:00 PM Magic Mix Soup of the Day for my first meal

4:00 PM  Magic Mix Kaleslaw for my snack

7:00 PM Magic Mix Iron Man Salad or plant-based entree 

My recommendation when trying this out is to purchase the Intermittent Fasting Cleanse, drink your juice in the morning, and then consume your solid food starting at 2:00 PM. 

I feel the best when I do this for three to five days, but you also have the option of trying it out for 1 day. Again, test it out and see how you feel. I recommend keeping a food journal throughout the process when you are first testing it out so that you can accurately remember how you felt during the whole process.
