What is CBD? And Why is Everyone So Obsessed with It?
I opened up my mind to incorporating CBD oil into my self-care routine when Bec and I were brainstorming new collaboration ideas. For YEARS we had both been searching for a delicious bedtime treat with no added sugars or BS.
We couldn’t find anything that met our high dietary standards so we sat in the Magic Mix kitchen and made it for ourselves using raw cacao, cacao butter, date paste, Himalayan sea salt, and CBD oil—and voila our new Edibles were born!
These edibles are super high in antioxidants and anandamide. Anandamide is known as the bliss molecule that takes you straight into a state of Euphoria—and I’ve been taking two of these babies religiously every night.
They just make me so happy (not just because I get to have my chocolate fix, but also because the CBD helps me sleep more soundly).
First of all, I want you to know that I’m relatively new to the CBD scene. Although I’ve dabbled in my fair share of plant medicine, I’ve never been a fan of smoking weed.
I like being clear headed, and weed always left me feeling paranoid, and not like my best self. So when my friend @sweatwithbec introduced me to CBD oil, I wasn’t sure if the health benefits were going to be all they were cracked up to be.
For those of you who don’t know:
CBD (or cannabidiol) is the non-psychoactive component extracted from the hemp plant. It’s completely legal, and won’t make you feel ‘high’ or stoned. It helps decrease inflammation, arthritis, anxiety, stress, nausea, chronic pain, migraines, depression and sleep disorders.
Not too shabby!!!
My life is SO hectic. I’m getting married, I’m launching new products, I’m boosting Magic Mix’s wholesale business, and I have been working out like a mad woman. Hellooo, hot wedding body ;) !
I try to take care of myself as much as possible—but going to Barre3 everyday has my joints feeling a little more than sore. Not to mention, I’ve been working waaaaaay too many hours, and it’s wreaking havoc on my sleep cycle.
The only thing that’s keeping me from going completely crazy is the CBD oil. Not only have I been consuming it in our Edibles, but I’ve also been dropping CBD oil into everything from our all Green Radiance juice to my nighttime tea. It works, and I feel magical—which is a miracle because I should be feeling like a ball of stress right about now.
What about the side effects?
In terms of dosage and side effects, I personally have not experienced any negative side effects from CBD oil, and our Edibles only have 5mg per chocolate which won’t have you feeling ‘out of it.’
I use the Mayo Clinic’s suggestions for dosage amounts, which are listed here:
To treat chronic pain: 2.5-20 mg CBD by mouth for an average of 25 days.
To treat sleep disorders: 40-160 mg CBD by mouth.
To treat epilepsy: 200-300 mg of CBD by mouth daily.
I am super excited to work with Bec on other CBD products and would love to get your feedback, insights, and thoughts on your experiences with CBD—as well as your opinion on our Edibles!
